Once Upon a Time – Slipper Contenders in the Making

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday March 16

Once upon a time at Newgate Farm three foals were born and found their way into three of the best racing stables in the country and at Rosehill on Saturday they will reunite in the richest two year-old race in the world, the $5million Group I ATC Golden Slipper.

Newgate Farm have so many Slipper runners to cheer this Saturday it’s hard to know where to start with six contenders by the stud’s resident sires engaged to run.

Russian Revolution has three Golden Slipper runners.

Newgate sires account for five runners plus an emergency with first season sire Russian Revolution represented by Revolutionary Miss, Russian Conquest and Rise of the Masses, Extreme Choice has She’s Extreme, Capitalist has Sebonack and Deep Field has the emergency Sweet Ride.

Russian Conquest and Rise of the Masses were foaled and raised at Newgate as was I Am Invincible filly Queen of the Ball.

Born at Newgate August 26, 2019, Russian Revolution filly from My Conquestadory (USA).

Russian Conquest was bred by SF Bloodstock/ Blake Sandblom Pty Ltd and was offered by Newgate at Magic Millions where she was bought by Snowden Racing for $425,000 with Newgate retaining a share.

Carrying the Newgate colours, she won her first two starts for Peter and Paul Snowden  before running second beaten a neck to Coolangatta in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

Both Rise of the Masses and Queen of the Ball were retained to race by Sir Owen Glenn’s Go Bloodstock and sent to their respective trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott along with Richard and Michael Freedman.

Born at Newgate August 31, 2019, Russian Revolution colt from Ruud Awakening.

Rise of the Masses cemented his place in the Slipper winning the Group III ATC Pago Pago Stakes, while Queen of the Ball won the Group III Canberra Black Opal Stakes last Sunday.

Born at Newgate, September 8, 2019 , I Am Invincible filly from Miss Debutante.

Henry Field and his team at Newgate Farm have enjoyed a rapid rise since 2012 when Foxwedge covered his first book of mares as their foundation sire and exactly 10 years on the farm has become a pivotal part of the Golden Slipper story.

They will stand two Golden Slipper winners in 2022 in Capitalist and Stay Inside, plus Extreme Choice, who sired Stay Inside to win last year from his very first crop of foals with Russian Revolution seeking to emulate his achievement in siring a Slipper winner in his first crop.

Stay tuned for history in the making on Saturday afternoon at 4.45pm.
