One to Watch – Pakenham

Tara Madgwick - Thursday March 10

The late Japanese champion sire Deep Impact already has a Group I winning three year-old in Australia this season in Profondo and he may well have another if the cards fall the right way for this blue-blooded filly, who cast off maiden status at Pakenham on Thursday.

Trained by Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young, Glint of Hope (Jpn)  showed immense potential in the spring when placing in her first four starts including two Group races before coming unstuck when unplaced in the Group I VRC Oaks.

She did plenty wrong that day and lost a plate before pulling up lame, but has obviously put that disappointing experience behind her judging by her smooth return.

Sent out a hot favourite for the  1400m maiden, Glint of Hope steamed through the line to win by two lengths running away.

Glint of Hope holds an entry for the Group I ATC Australian Oaks, but with other Group I Oaks options in Adelaide and Brisbane she will have ample opportunities in coming weeks to fulfil her potential.

A $250,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Asrun from the Bhima Thoroughbreds draft, Glint of Hope was bred by Raffles Dancers and is bred to be an Oaks filly being the second winner from Sacred Sight (IRE), a half-sister to Group I Royal Ascot Gold Cup winner Colour Vision from Group III winning Monsun mare Gimme Five.

The female family is steeped in German staying blood giving the impression Glint of Hope will excel over longer staying trips as her career unfolds.
