$475,000 Written Tycoon Filly Going to Busuttin Young Stable

Media Release - Wednesday March 9

Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young were able to secure their pick of the fillies at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale on Wednesday when outlaying $475,000 for lot 467, the Written Tycoon filly out of Phoenix Park’s draft, in conjunction with bloodstock agent Andrew Williams.

The Cranbourne trainers had been sent in her direction by a couple of trusted friends and they were duly impressed when inspecting her at Karaka.

“I had been told about her previously via a couple of good judges. I loved her from the moment I saw her,” Trent Busuttin said.

“We saw her straight away and we were hoping to get her.

“Luckily we have got a couple of good clients in Neil Werrett and Max Whitby and she will race in their joint-colours with a couple of other partners.

“We are rapt to secure her.”

Busuttin has a lot of time for the offspring of Written Tycoon, sire of 11 individual Group One winners including the filly’s three-quarter sister Luna Rossa, while she is also related to the blue-hen Listen Here, dam of Shooting To Win and Deep Field.

“We have had enough winners out of the stable by him. They are just good horses. When you buy one, you are half a chance,” he said.

“She is a big, strong, powerful filly. She wouldn’t look out of place in any of the early two-year-old races in Melbourne or Sydney.”

The filly was Busuttin and Young’s biggest purchase at Karaka this week from the 10 horses secured to date, but the Cranbourne trainer believes the well-bred filly was good value.

“That filly is our most expensive one, but we have bought a couple of cheap horses to syndicate – a Zed (lot 340, $60,000), Sacred Falls (lot 279, $75,000), and a So You Think filly (lot 310, $120,000), so all across the board,” he said.

“It is a lot of money (for the filly), but I think it was still under her value.”

Busuttin is enjoying being back in his homeland this week and was once again impressed by the quality offerd at Karaka this year.

“We are trying to be as active as possible,” he said.

“We have bought a variety of horses at different prices. We have bought some nice staying horses – Savabeels and Almanzors.

“I think it is a great sale, they have all turned out fantastic and it is good value.” – NZ Racing Desk
