Siyouni's Amelia's Jewel Makes Winning Debut in Supremacy Stakes

Mark Smith - Saturday March 5

Simon Miller took the wraps off Amelia's Jewel in Saturday's Listed Mgib Supremacy Stakes (1000m) at Ascot, and the two-year-old daughter of Siyouni (FR) won like a filly with a future.

Ridden by Patrick Carberry, Amelia's Jewel came clear in the closing stages to defeat the Rommel filly Fiorucci Mama by two and a quarter lengths with the A Lot filly Costume Party a neck back in third.

"Small fields can be quite tricky, but she jumped exceptionally and lobbed in a good spot," Carberry said.

"She travelled sweetly, although I was wary of being caught in a pocket just before straightening, but she balanced up and let down and did it nicely.

"She is very smart, very chilled, got a bit excited behind the barrier, but when she got with the pony, she was quite happy. She has an older horse's head on her like she has been here before."

A homebred for Amelia Park Racing & Breeding, Amelia's Jewel is the first foal of the stakes-placed Canford Cliffs mare Bumbasina (IRE).

Consigned to the 2019 Tattersalls July Sale, Bumbasina (IRE) was a 75,000 guineas purchase for Louis Le Metayer's Astute Bloodstock.

Bumbasina (IRE) is a half-sister to  Group II winner Epona Playsustralia) and Group III winner Dolce Strega (Zoffany).

Merchant Navy colt from Bumbasina

Bumbasina (IRE) has a yearling colt by Merchant Navy that topped Magic Millions Perth Book 2 last week selling for $160,000 and a weanling colt by Blue Point (IRE). She was covered by Capitalist last spring.

Haras de Bonneval's Pivotal stallion Siyouni (FR) has three stakes winners in Australia despite limited representation.
