Last Thoroughbred Sport Horse Classes of 2020

Tara Madgwick - Monday December 14

Thoroughbred Sport Horse Association has come a long way and closed out 2020 with a terrific turnout for classes at the Summer Show at Sydney International Equestrian Centre last weekend featuring a horse we deem as a ‘One to Watch’.

JNSW Summer Show
1.20m Group 1 sponsored by Freedman Brothers

Congratulations to Milly Clark and 13YO Witchpinsky aka Rosthwaite Grumfus on winning the Group 1 class sponsored by Freedman Brothers.

Milly Clark and Rosthwaite Grumfus

A non winner from five starts, the winner is from a mare by Golden Slipper winning sire Canny Lad, who has had some notable success in siring showjumpers.

Around the same time last year Milly and Witchpinsky had qualified for the “Jump Off” finals before winning their first TSHA Group 1 class at Sydney Jump Club! Milly’s first Group 1 might have been at a different show but the class was also sponsored by Freedman Brothers.

We are so appreciative of the ongoing sponsorship from Freedman Brothers who last year sponsored at Sydney Jumping Championships and in 2020 have sponsored at 3 different shows being Stonewall Equestrian, Hunter Spring Showjumping Championships and of course today.

The Freedman name is synonymous with racing and we can’t thank them enough for getting behind what is becoming a very successful addition to the major jumping shows to support careers after racing for our thoroughbreds.

Congratulations to the winner and placegetters

JNSW Summer Show
1.10m Group 2 sponsored by Blake Ryan

Is there anything 10YO gelding Cosmic Cube can’t do? A Listed race winner trained by Chris Waller who earned over $240,000 prizemoney before retiring in November 2016. In just 4 short years he has risen up the eventing ranks with his talented rider, Tilly McCarroll, successfully competing 3* eventing and today won the 1.10m Group 2 TSHA class.

Cosmic Cube gets the prize with Blake Ryan on hand to present !

Thank you so much to Blake Ryan Racing for sponsoring this class. It was fantastic that Blake could take time out from his busy schedule to be at the show today and do the presentations.

Great to see Jess Ryan and Jess Bott competing and placing in this class - Jess and Raise an Angel just missed out on first place while Jess Ryan and Aviator filled 6th place and won some of their own sponsorship money back!

7yo gelding Aviator is an interesting horse being a $290,000 Inglis Easter yearling from the Vinery draft that showed some talent on the track winning two of nine starts including a debut victory at Rosehill at two.

Aviator was a $290,000 Inglis Easter yearling pruchase.

By Australia’s reigning champion sire Snitzel, Aviator is a half-brother to Group II ATC Villiers Stakes winner Monton and his grand-mother and her mother are the Group I winning mares Bianco Flyer and Bianco Lady.

We’ll be watching his jumping progress with great interest and he’s our ‘One to Watch’ at this show!

Congratulations to Tilly and Cosmic Cube and well done to all the placegetters.

90cm Slipper sponsored by Breednet

Congratulations to the winner Charly Robinson-Smith who continued on her recent winning streak and well done to all the placegetters.

While not the winner of Breednet 90cm TSHA Slipper class, special mention has to go 14YO Lamasery.

Lamasery won the 2012 Group 2 ATC Hill Stakes and three other stakes races in a fantastic career on the track.

Lamasery, who placed 6th in this class was ridden by Jessica Acheson and is owned by Sam and Melanie Mayer.

The Mayer’s raced Lamasery who amassed over $630,000 in his 25 start career. Lamasery was instrumental in the comeback of trainer David Vandyke who was going to give it all away until Lamasery came along.

He really is the horse who keeps on giving and when he’s not winning ribbons show jumping he’s cruising around EvA95 eventing tracks for Jessica.
