Dundeel's Truly Great Captures the Group 1 Kingston Town Classic

Mark Smith - Saturday December 5

From the time Brad Parnham and his brother Chris quinelled the opening race for their father Neville on Kingston Town Classic day at Ascot, it was all leading up to something memorable for Western Australia's premier racing family.

no guessing what it means to Chris Parnham to land his first Group 1 (image Western Racepix twitter) racing

After Brad won the Listed Sir Ernest Lee-Steere stakes on Kissonallforcheeks, Chris countered with a copybook ride to land the Group III A J Scahill Stakes on the enigmatic Kemantari.

That proved the perfect appetiser for Chris Parnham to secure his first Group 1 win on the 5yo Dundeel gelding Truly Great in the days feature the $1,000,000 Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m).

In a quinella for Bob and Sandra Peters and the training partnership of Grant and Alana Williams, Truly Great defeated his fast-finishing stablemate Inspirational Girl (Reliable Man) by two lengths with Dom To Shoot (Shooting To Win) a length back in third.

Winner of the Group III R.J. Peters Stakes on November 14, Truly Great advances his record to seven wins and two seconds from 12 starts with earnings of $872,575.

Bob Peters left no doubt about his feelings on Truly Great from the first time he laid eyes on him.

"I've said all along that that year he was our best foal. He is one of the best types I have ever bred, just stand back and look at him," Peters said.

"I have had to wait a long time for him, a lot of things went wrong, but I've always had confidence in him

"The same silly little things seem to go wrong for all the foals from this family."

A half-brother to the Group III Western Australian Oaks winner Special Alert (Not A Single Doubt), Truly Great becomes the best of four winners from as many to race out of the 3-time winning Jeune mare Truly Special.

A daughter of the Listed SAJC Morphettville Guineas winner Reigning Belle, Truly Special hails from the family of Coronation Cup winner and champion stallion Oncidium (GB).

Truly Special has been a regular visitor to the court of Dundeel, visiting him in six consecutive seasons.

She has an unraced 2yo filly by the son of High Chaparral (IRE) named  Truly Blessed.

After missing for the first time at her eighth season at stud in 2018, the daughter of Jeune foaled a sister to Truly Great on November 11.

From the first crop of Dundeel, Truly Great becomes the fifth Group 1 winner for the Arrowfield Stud resident.

Dundeel has 13 lots catalogued for the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale in January.
