First Winner for Earthquake

Mark Smith - Monday October 5

Given a patient ride by Rachel King, Godolphin’s three-year-old Medaglia d”Oro (USA) colt Namazu shed his maiden status at his sixth start over 1550m at Canterbury on Monday.

Last of the five starters turning for home, Namazu quickly rounded the leaders up in the straight to win by three-quarters of a length from Marylee (Stratum) with Passtow (Spill The Beans) the same distance back in third.

Placed in three of his previous five starts, Namazu is the second foal and first to race out of the crack racemare Earthquake.

A daughter of Exceed And Excel, Earthquake started a short-priced favourite in the 2014 Golden Slipper in which she went into undefeated following wins in the Group III Blue Diamond Prelude, Group 1 Blue Diamond stakes and Group II Reisling Stakes.
