Mark Smith - Friday April 17

Odds-on favourite Girls Kick On made short work of her 13 overmatched opponents in a 1000 metre maiden at Port Macquarie on Friday to credit her sire Scissor Kick with his first winner.

Taking advantage of an inside barrier, Darryl McLellan kicked up to lead on the Damien Lane-trained filly and she was never in any real danger at any stage.Girls Kick On as a yearling
She coasted to the line to defeat the Sepoy colt Bay Of Bengal by two and a quarter lengths with the Not A Single Doubt filly Undeniable a length back in third.

It was start number three for Girls Kick On who debuted with a third in a 1000 metre maiden at Newcastle on March 19 before a half-length defeat by Australian Bloodstock’s promising Hinchinbrook colt Zeftabrook in the valuable Wellington Boot.

A $12,000 purchase by Glenvale Park out of the Bhima Stud draft at the 2019 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, Girls Kick On is the third winner from as many foals out of the Savabeel mare Placement.

Also the dam of the stakes-placed Berkshire Lady (Star Witness, Placement was an top-class performer for trainer Danny O’Brien who secured her for $65,000 at the 2009 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
She went on to win five races and $472,378  and was runner-up in the Group II Wakeful Stakes and third behind the same filly in the VRC Oaks.Scisasor Kick - image Mark Smith

At the 2015 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale, Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock purchased Placement for $330,000 on behalf of Jonathon Munz.

From the great Waikato Stud family of Prisoner Of Love, Strike The Stars, Sportsman, Hoystar and King Of Prussia, Placement went back through the ring at the 2019 Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale. Carrying a So You Think colt the daughter of Savabeel made 100,000 to the bid of Rifa Mustang.

Currently shuttling to France, Scissor Kick was a thoroughly game son of Redoute’s Choice. A dual Group III winner he was narrowly edged out by Hallowed Crown in the Group 1 Golden Rose.

A brother to Listed winner Sharkbite, Scissor Kick’s dam Back Pass is a daughter of Skiable who is a half-sister to the incomparable Hasili, the dam of a world record five Group 1 winners as well as White Robe Stud’s  Raise The Flag (GB) the sire of the Sydney Cup winner Etah James.

Scissor Kick came close to opening his account with one of his first runners when Hasstobemagic finished second in a Listed race at Pukekohe Park last November.
