Newgate Owned Mare Claims Second Group I Victory

Tara Madgwick - Saturday April 11

An astute investment at one of the breeding stock sales in North America in 2018 by Newgate Farm and SF Bloodstock has paid dividends beyond their wildest dreams.

The Group I ATC Coolmore Legacy (1600m) at Randwick on Saturday delivered a second Group I win for talented import Con Te Partiro (USA), who carried the colours of Newgate Farm to an impressive win.

A stakes-winner in the US and at Royal Ascot when trained by Wesley Ward, Con Te Partiro won first-up in Australia in the Group III Dark Jewel Stakes at Scone last year, but failed to place in four subsequent runs and was retired to stud.

She was covered by Zoustar, but famously missed and was returned to the stables of Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott and the rest is history.

Con Te Partiro returned from her break  to win the Group I ATC Coolmore Classic at her second run back and was a last start sixth in the Group I ATC Doncaster.

She maintained her hot form for Tim Clark to travel just behind the leaders and sped clear down the running to score by a length and three-quarters over top class three year-old filly Funstar.

Con Te Partiro is now a two time G1 winner! “She’s been in a great frame of mind this campaign and has been much better to deal with,” said Adrian Bott.

“You could see that today, she’s wanting to be there and put herself in the race and she travelled beautifully.

“It was always the plan to come here off the back of the Doncaster and she’s had a good week and it was a plan well executed.

“I’ll have to have a good talk to Henry Field now and see what they want to do. If this is her last run, she’s gone out in style!”

Purchased by Newgate Farm and SF Bloodstock for $US575,000 at the 2018 Fasig-Tipton November Sale, the 6yo daughter of Scat Daddy advances her record to six wins and three placings from 24 starts with earnings of $1.2million.

Con Te Partiro is a half-sister to stakes-winner Donworth out of the Group I placed Street Cry mare Temple Street from the family of Group I Vosburgh Handicap winner A Phenomenon and Group I Spinaway Stakes winner Seattle Meteor.

Her sire, the ill-fated Scat Daddy, is emerging as a potential breed shaping sire of the future with four of his sons covering mares at Coolmore Stud in 2019 led by the Triple Crown champion Justify, Mendelssohn, No Nay Never (who has a Group I son Ten Sovereigns available iin Ireland ) and Sioux Nation.

Footnote: Alana Pearson was mentioned by Adrian Bott for her pivotal role as strapper and track rider of this quirky mare and it's often the case with challenging horses that there is a key person at home that is a large part of the reason this horse has achieved as it has.
