Stakes Success for Rothesay Gelding

Mark Smith - Monday March 9

It’s been a long-time between drinks for Over Exposure but the son of Rothesay chose the right spot in Monday’s Listed Schweppes C S Hayes Memorial Cup (1600m) to break a drought.

The Tony and Calvin McEvoy-trained gelding placed in the Group III  R A Lee Stakes and Listed Adelaide Guineas over this track and distance as a 3yo but he has been winless since April 2018

.

With Jamie Kah in the saddle, Over Exposure settled back last of the nine runners as Kardashing set a solid pace. Kah elected to stick to the rails in the straight and immediately ran into trouble.

The 5yo son of Rothesay picked himself up and to run down Pickelhaube (Helmet) by with Charossa (Myboycharlie) back in third.

Tony McEvoy said it was a thrill to win the race that honours his old boss, Colin Hayes.

“I’m very proud to win this one, it means a lot and I will cherish it, McEvoy said.Over Exposure as a yearling

“I reckon I’m here because of the boss, CS (Hayes), he moulded me through my young days and groomed me to what I am today.

“He hasn’t been the soundest horse, he feels his runs and jars-up, but he is a real talent and the owners have showed great patience and it’s nice to see them rewarded.”

Purchased by McEvoy Mitchell Racing for $75,000 out of the Glenlogan Park draft at the 2016 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Over Exposure advances his record to 4 wins, 3 seconds and 2 thirds from 16 starts with earnings of $298,650.

He is the first foal of the unraced Show A Heart mare Show A Princess who is a sister to the stakes-placed Show A Prince out of the Listed GCTC Silk Stocking winner Princess Margaret (Spectrum).

Show A Princess has a yearling colt by Rich Enuff that was purchased by Upper Bloodstock out of the Glenlogan Park draft at the recent Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

After missing in 2018, Show A Princess was covered by Exceed And Excel last spring.

Over Exposure becomes the fifth stakes-winner for the Fastnet Rock stallion Rothesay who covered 98 mares at Lyndhurst Stud Farm last spring at a fee of $4,950.
