Spirit Of Boom's Outback Barbie Back On Top

Mark Smith - Sunday November 10

While she has averaged just one win a year for the past three years, Outback Barbie remains one of the most popular racehorses in Queensland and fans that backed her if unbeatable in Saturday’s Listed Keith Noud Quality at Doomben were rewarded for their patience.

The daughter of Spirit Of Boom won the Listed Calaway Gal Stakes at her career debut at Doomben in December 2017 but it took 12 months for her second in the Listed BRC Mode Stakes (1200m) at Doomben in December 2018.Outback Barbie Earns her third stakes win

In between she could boast a third behind Sunlight in the Magic Millions 2yo Classic and was competitive in five races in Sydney in the spring including placings in the Group II Percy Sykes Stakes and Group II Silver Shadow Stakes.

Saturday’s win in the Keith Noud advances her record to 3 wins, 2 second and 3 thirds from 16 starts with earnings of $736,850.

With regular rider Jim Byrne in the saddle, Outback Barbie flew home to defeat Tambo's Mate (Mossman) by a length with a head to I'm A Rippa (Love Conquers All).

"That's given me a big thrill, not much went right for us in the Winter Carnival and we gave her a nice rest and set her for the Summer carnival and she's started on the right foot," winning trainer Tony Gollan told Racing Queensland.

"She doesn't have a great win strike rate because she's been in so many good races, but to get her back in form today I'm really, really proud of this horse."

"She began really well today when she's usually a bit tardy first up and as she always is was really strong late, Jimmy (Byrne) rode her a treat and when he got her to the outside I knew she would win."

"She'll be back in Group One races next year but for now we're looking to cash in on what's in front of us culminating on Magic Millions day which is her grand final this time in."

"She'll wait three weeks and go to the George Moore and there's a pathway race on the way to Magic Millions we'll target as well."

The daughter of Spirit Of Boom was a $210,000 Magic Millions purchase for Alan and Jennifer Acton from the Eureka Stud draft and was the most expensive yearling from the first crop of her sire.

She is the first foal of the stakes-winning General Nediym mare Pure Purrfection, who was a $160,000 purchase by Colin McAlpine out of the Widden Stud draft at the 2010 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale

A half-sister to stakes-winner Global Warming, Pure Purrfection has proven to be a goldmine.

At the 2018 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Boomer Bloodstock shelled out $550,000 for her Pierro filly named Purroni who has won her last two starts at Ipswich and Doomben.

At the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Eureka Stud sold Pure Purrfection’s Written Tycoon filly to Gary Harding for $340,000.

So it’s reasonable to assume that buyers will need long pockets when Eureka Stud consigns a Hinchinbrook half-sister to Outback Barbie at the 2020 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Pure Purrfection was covered by Spirit Of Boom last season but for the first time in her career she missed.
