G3 Win for Sunlight Sister

Tara Madgwick - Thursday November 7

Stakes-placed earlier this year in Adelaide, three year-old Zoustar filly Sisstar has taken a little longer to hit winning form than her famous older sister Sunlight, but she claimed a valuable Black Type success at Flemington on Oaks Day when leading all the way to win the Group III VRC Red Roses Stakes (1100m).

Easy wins at her only other runs this spring at Murray Bridge and Flemington encouraged connections to send her back into Black type company with pleasing results.

She showed brilliant speed to lead all the way for Barend Vorster and win by half a neck over Niccovi giving Widden Stud sires Zoustar and Nicconi a stakes quinella.

A $600,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Widden Stud draft for McEvoy Mitchell Racing/David Redvers Bstock, Sisstar runs for a syndicate that includes many of the same owners involved in Sunlight and has the overall record of three wins from seven starts with prizemoney topping $275,000.

“She was really impressive and to win a Group Three with this filly is a big reward for everyone involved with her as they paid a lot of money,” said Tony McEvoy.

Sisstar “She’s a real quality filly. She’ll go to the paddock now and we’ll look at a race like the Sangster (Group I in Adelaide) for her in the autumn.”

Bred by Widden Stud in partnership, Sisstar is the fourth winner from Group III winner Solar Charged joining not only Sunlight , but also Group III placed Sheikha.

Widden Stud sold a Sebring colt from Solar Charged at Inglis Easter this year for $650,000 and she has a yearling colt to follow by Sunlight and Sisstar’s sire Zoustar.

Sisstar is the 13th stakes-winner for Zoustar, who stands this spring at Widden a fee of $154,000.
