One to Watch – Gosford

Tara Madgwick - Thursday October 31

A blue blooded winner for Pierro at Gosford on Thursday highlighted a nick that has really clicked.

Rockarosa as a yearlingPlaced at her two previous starts, the Chris Waller trained Pierro filly Rockarosa was favourite for the 1600 metre maiden and duly saluted by half a length at her fourth start.

A $250,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Amarina Farm draft for Laurel Oak Bloodstock, Rockarosa is the third winner from three foals to race from dual Group I winner Gallica, who captured the Group I MRC Thousand Guineas and also the ATC Australian Oaks.

The VRC Oaks might have come too early for this girl, but you can imagine connections will be laying plans for the Oaks races of 2020 as her three year-old season unfolds.

Gallica sadly died last month and her last foal is a yearling colt by I Am Invincible.

Rockarosa highlights a very successful  nick between Pierro and daughters of champion sire Redoute’s Choice.

The nick has produced 27 winners from 35 runners or 77% winners to runners and seven of those winners are stakes-winners led by Group I winners Levendi and Arcadia Queen as well as Hong Kong Derby winner Furore making for 20% stakes-winners to runners.

Pierro is having a sensational season with 38 winners including five stakes-winners of over $4million in prizemoney.

The champion son of Lonhro is fully booked this spring at Coolmore at a fee of $88,000.
