Belardo Yearlings Impress at Tattersalls

Media Release - Thursday October 17

Tattersall’s world-renowned October Yearling Sale got underway last week and Haunui Farm have been delighted to see the results for Belardo’s first Northern Hemisphere yearlings.

Belardo had some lovely yearlings offered at Tattersalls With six yearlings catalogued in Book 1, Belardo fetched a top price of 150,000 gns for a colt out of Vandergirl, a daughter of Duch Art consigned by Jamie Railton and purchased by Klaravich Stables.  His next best seller in Book 1 was a 110,000 gns filly and he ended Book 1 with an average just under 90,000 gns.

Book 2 completed overnight and provided Belardo with his top price to date of 200,000 gns for a colt out of stakes performer, La Patria (GB) (Dubawi).  Shadwell Stud went to 135,000 gns for a colt out of stakes performer You’re Back (USA) (Street Cry) and from a total of nine lots catalogued in Book 2, Belardo averaged just over 65,000 gns.

Haunui Farm’s Mark Chitty says, “It always seems like a long wait to see a young stallion’s first crop hit the sale ring, but the time has come and the results suggest that Belardo’s first crop have certainly created an impression.  To get a 200,000 gns yearling in Book 2 is testament to the type that Belardo is leaving and as our yearling preparation gets underway, we’re certainly looking forward to his first Southern Hemisphere crop hitting the sale ring in January 2020.”

Belardo is currently serving his third book of mares at Haunui Farm and is on track to buck the trend for most third season sires.  “Usually we see a significant drop in numbers in season three as breeders sit back and wait for some sale and racetrack performance but as things stand at the present time, Belardo has 98 mares booked for the season and all going well, we might just crack the 100,” said Mark.

Having served 95 mares in his first season and 118 in season two, these numbers will certainly ensure Belardo has the numbers on the ground to make an impact on the track where it counts the most.
