Woodside Park Stud's shuttler Cable Bay (IRE) is making a name for himself with his first runners in Europe and he is getting some help in keeping his name in lights from his half-brother Mister Sea Wolf (IRE) who earned his fourth stakes win in Australia when capturing Saturday's Group II Shannon Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens.
Ridden by James McDonald, the Chris Waller-trained 8yo gelding hugged the rails in the straight to overpower the favourite Gem Song (Your Song) by one and a quarter lengths with Tom Melbourne (Dylan Thomas) a half-length back in third. (image Steve Hart)
Misted Sea Wolf (IRE) earned a ticket to next weeks Group 1 Epsom Handicap but Waller said he is unlikely to ask the veteran to back-up unless overruled by his owners.
"If you look at his form you will see he needs to have his races spaced three or four weeks," Waller said.
"He has a few secondary problems where his legs puff up and things like that so you are always dealing with something with him."
Originally trained in England before moving to Ireland, Mister Sea Wolf (IRE) had 23 starts before being sent to Australia.
At his Australian debut, the son of Amadeus Wolf was just edged out by Testashadow in the Festival Stakes at Rosehill Gardens. He was placed in the Group III Newcastle Newmarket and Group III Doncaster Prelude before failing in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile at Randwick.
He has since won the Group III ATC Doncaster Prelude, Listed ATC Winter Challeng and Listed HRC Rowley Mile.
With his fourth stakes win, Mister Sea Wolfe advances his record to 10 wins, 5 seconds and 4 thirds from 43 starts with earnings of $778,737.
A half-brother to Group II winner Cable Bay (IRE) (Invincible Spirit) and Listed winner Yulong Yuheng (Invincible Spirit) , Mister Sea Wolf (IRE) is one of seven winners from as many to race out of the Diktat mare Rose de France who is a half-sister to Group III winner and Group 1 placed Bowman (Irish River) out of the top-class Dancing Brave mare Cherokee Rose whose five wins include the Group 1 Prix Maurice de Gheest and Group 1 Haydock Sprint Cup.
