Hampton Court Off The Mark

Mark Smith - Sunday September 1

Spendthrift Farm's Group 1 ATC Spring Champion Stakes winner Hampton Court is off the mark in Australia with his first crop son Sirmaze breaking the ice at his fourth career start in a 1600 metre maiden at Hawkesbury on Saturday.

Ridden by Chad Lever for trainer Jason Coyle, Sirmaze came down the extreme outside of the rain-sodden track to defeat Enchantingly (Choisir) by one and a quarter lengths with Apithanos (Sebring) the same distance back in third.

Third at his previous two starts at Kembla Grange after debuting with a fourth at Newcastle, Sirmaze is one of just seven named foals from the first Australian conceived crop of Hampton Court (Redoute's Choice).

Bred by the Esplin family, Sirmaze was consigned by Tartan Fields to the 2018 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale where he was knocked down to Coyle for $45,000.

He is the fourth foal and third winner out of the unraced Singspiel mare Siraiki whose dam Nawadi (Machiavellian) is a sister to the Royal Ascot Queen Anne Stakes winner and successful sire No Excuse Needed and a three-quarter sister to Group 1 winner Capponi (Medicean).

Hampton Court will stand at Spendthrift Australia in 2019 at a fee of $5,500.

He has also sired four winners the Northern Hemisphere.
