Gorgeous Grey Wins for Godolphin

Talented grey Godolphin blue-blood Subedar is a descendant of the mighty mare Emancipation and kept his unbeaten record intact at his first metropolitan outing when saluting at Rosehill on Saturday.




The James Cummings trained son of Sepoy won his debut at Kembla over 1300 metres on July 25 and was put to the test jumping straight up in class to a Benchmark 70 over 1400 metres for three and four year-olds.

Subedar returns a winner - images Steve HartHe relished the tougher assignment, hitting the line hard for Kerrin McEvoy to win by a long head and has now won two from two earning a tick over $100,000.

"He's a beautiful horse and another promising Sepoy emerging from the stable," said James Cummings.

"He has a really good winning attitude and keeps sticking his neck out. He's a horse we like a lot and he's definitely going places."

Subedar is the fourth winner from four foals to race from Anabaa's dual Group I winning daughter Virage de Fortune, who was bought by Darley for $3.4 million at the 2007 Inglis Easter Broodmare Sale.

A grand-daughter of the legendary mare Emancipation and a full sister to multiple Group III winner Avenue, Virage de Fortune (pictured below at Darley - image Mark Smith) is yet to produce a Black Type horse, but does have more to come in the pipeline with a two year-old by Exceed and Excel called Reverse and she is in foal to Darley's Group I winner Holler.




Subedar's sire Sepoy stands at Darley Victoria this spring at a fee of $11,000. Sepoy made it a winning double at Rosehill when his star daughter Alizee resumed from a spell to win the Group II ATC Missile Stakes, read about here her.
