Sebring Filly Dominant at Sandown

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday July 24
By Sebring from the family of Black Caviar, brilliant filly Seatonic showed plenty of her family's renowned speed in scoring a dominant win at Sandown on Wednesday.

Seatonic as a yearlingThe Ciaron Maher and David Eustace trained filly (image above Darryl Sherer) surged forward from gate one for Linda Meech to take up the running and kept up a strong gallop to the line to win the 1000 metre juvenile by nearly four lengths making light work of the heavy ground.

"We were very confident as she'd drawn one and has plenty of pace although she probably did it easier than we thought in the end," said Ciaron Maher.

"She's thriving in her prep, so we'll keep her going and chase some Black type in the early spring with her."

A $150,000 Inglis Premier purchase for Ciaron Maher Bloodstock / De Burgh Equine from the Supreme Thoroughbreds draft, Seatonic has two wins and two starts from five starts with earnings topping $85,000.

She was bred by Robert Crabtree and is the first foal of Bel Esprit mare Sistonic, a winning full sister to stakes-winner Iconic and close relation of undefeated world champion Black Caviar.

Sistonic is a grand-daughter of blue hen Scandinavia, who is the dam of Group I winning sire Magnus among four stakes-winners and is also the dam of Helsinge, dam of both Black Caviar and Champion 3YO Colt and proven sire All Too Hard.

Sistonic has a weanling colt by I Am Invincible and is in foal to Shalaa (IRE).
