High Chaparral's Silvera Captures Tattersalls Mile

Mark Smith - Saturday July 20

As a three-quarter brother to the champion Shoot Out, plenty was expected of the High Chaparral (IRE) gelding Silvera.

It all looked good when he broke his maiden at his first start and then bagged a stakes win at his second start in the Listed Morphettville Guineas.

But that was back in September 2016 and it took nearly three years and 28 starts to add a second. It came in Saturday's Listed Sky Racing Tattersall's Mile at Eagle Farm.

Having his fourth start for Tony Gollan after being transferred from Tony McEvoy, Silvera came to the race off the back of a win in the Rockhampton Cup a fortnight previously.

"It was thought a change of scenery might have helped him and he has now won two from four starts for us," Gollan told AAP.

"We were always going to come back to the Brisbane for the Tatts Mile, the black-type and 1600m were too tempting."

Ridden by Jim Byrne, Silvera defeated the Chris Waller-trained import Araaja (IRE) (Iffraaj) by a length with Magnufighter (Magnus) three-quarter of a length back in third.

The son of High Chaparral (image Mark Smith) advances his record to 8 wins, 4 seconds and 2 thirds from 29 starts with earnings of $441,645.

A homebred for Linda Huddy, Silvera carries the same colours as his three-quarter brother, 5-time Group 1 winner and $3.2 million earner Shoot Out.

Silvera is the first foal of the Ferocity mare Silver Tiara, a $320,000 yearling who failed to flatter in her two race starts.

Besides being a half-sister to Shoot Out, Silver Tiara is a half-sister to Group III Western Australian Oaks winner Cassandra Shadow (Johannesburg).

Silver Tiara has a 2yo colt by Dream Ahead (USA) and a weanling colt by I Am Invincible.

She was covered by the Triple Crown hero American Pharoah (USA) last spring.
