First Foal of Yankee Rose Sells for $2.75 million

Mark Smith - Tuesday July 9

After banking $2 million in a brilliant career on the track, Darby Racing's $10,000 money-making machine Yankee Rose, had her first foal, a filly by Deep Impact, sell for 210 million yen ($A2,750,000) at the JRHA Foal Sale at Northern Farm in Hokkaido on Tuesday.

The daughter of All American won four races in a career restricted to 10 starts that were highlighted by wins in the Group 1 ATC Sires' Produce Stakes (1400m) at two and the Group 1 Champion Stakes (2000m) in record time at three.

Trained by David Vandyke, Yankee Rose was also runner-up to Capitalist in the Group 1 Golden Slipper and was third to Winx in the second of the champion's four Cox Plates.

At the conclusion of her career, Yankee Rose was purchased privately by Katsumi Yoshida.

Yankee Rose was booked to go back to Deep Impact again this year but when he was withdrawn from service early in the season, Yankee Rose was reportedly covered by Deep Impact's Group 1 English 2000 Guineas winning son Saxon Warrior.
