Impressive Medaglia d'Oro Filly Eyes the Tatts Tiara

Mark Smith - Saturday June 1

Winner of the Group III PJ Bell Stakes at Randwick in April, the James Cummings-trained Multaja capped a wonderful day for Blake Shinn when she powered home to win Saturday's Listed Mittys Helen Coughlan Stakes (1200m) at Doomben.

The highly promising 3-year-old daughter of Medaglia d'Oro (USA) may have earned her chance in the Group 1 Tatts Tiara with her one and three-quarter length drubbing of Madam Rouge (Zoustar) with Smartypy (Smart Missile) a length away third.

"She's always been very, very good, she was just overracing earlier in her career and we've just got her to settle which was key today as she got well back," Godolphin's General Manager Vin Cox said.

"I was a bit nervous straightening up, but like he has a few times today Blake got her where she needed to be.

"To put a quality field away in that fashion we're delighted.

"A Tatts Tiara is not off the table, but a decision on that is yet to be made."

It was the fourth stakes-winner on the day for Blake Shinn.

"I can't believe I've ridden four today on such a competitive days racing, it's unbelievable," he said.

"They went quick today and from riding her a little bit at trackwork and watching her replays when you can get her to settle you really maximise her sprint which we saw today."

The Godolphin homebred advances her record to 5 wins and 3 seconds from 12 starts with earnings of $418,650.

A full sister to the 2017 Listed ATC Lonhro Plate winner Veranillo, Multaja is the third foal of the useful Lonhro mare Shelters who is a sister to the Group I BRC The TJ Smith Classic winner Benfica.

Shelters has a 2yo colt by Helmet named Shielded who finished second in a maiden at Wyong at his second start last month. She has a weanling full brother to Multaja and was covered by Medaglia d'Oro's Group 1 winning son Astern last spring.
