Redouble Now a Millionaire

Mark Smith - Saturday June 1

Blake Shinn is putting on an exhibition at Doomben with the 5-year-old gelding Redouble the third leg of a stakes 4-timer when capturing the Innovative Hire Spear Chief Handicap (1350m).

The Bjorn Baker-trained son of Redoute's Choice took his earnings to over $1 million despite earning his first unrestricted stakes win.

The $1 million Magic Millions Cup in January provided the bulk of his earnings but he has been in good form of late with a third behind Trekking and Brave Song in the Group III Hall Mark Stakes at Randwick and fourth behind the same pair in the Listed Luskin Park Stakes at Scone.

Redouble was found out at the highest level at his most recent start in the Kingsford Smith Cup at Eagle Farm but a drop back in class here saw him defeat Natch (Thorn Park) by long-neck with a head to Mr Marbellouz (Love Conquers All) in third place. (image Racing Queensland).

Bjorn Baker Stable Representative Stephen McLean said they have not given up on a Group 1.

"If he pulls up well we'll look to get him into the Stradbroke next week, I'm not sure where he sits in the running order but this only helps," he said

"Bjorn has a good strike rate bringing his horses North, it's super to see him run well today and I'm sure he'll be up here next week."

"I didn't think we'd get as handy as we did from the jump, but Blake found a way and he had a little extra in the tank at the end."

Originally trained by team Hawkes, Redouble advances his record to 6 wins, 4 seconds and 5 thirds from 29 starts with earnings of $1,052,900.

Purchased by Spendthrift Farm for $200,000 out of the Torryburn Stud draft at the 2015 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Redouble is the fourth foal of the Group 1 winning Towkay mare Special Mission.

Not served in 2017, Special Mission has a weanling colt by Palentino and was bred back to Fighting Sun.
