One to Watch – Echuca

Tara Madgwick - Monday August 21
The leading first season sire by winners for 2016/2017, Your Song gave us a ‘One to Watch’ on Monday with a debut winner at Echuca that carried the colours of outstanding mare Lucia Valentina.

The Mike Moroney trained three year-old filly Equestria was favourite for the 1100 metre maiden and duly won by half a length going away in the soft ground.

Equestria as a yearlingShe was going nowhere with a furlong to run, but unleashed a sizzling change of gear for Patrick Moloney that carried her straight past her hapless rivals and on to victory.

It was an eye-catching win that will have her on the radar for punters looking for a follow horse out of this meeting.

A $115,000 Inglis Premier purchase from the Blue Gum Farm draft for Paul Moroney Bloodstock, Equestria runs for a syndicate headed by New Zealand owner breeder Lib Petagna in whose colours she runs.

The 15th first crop winner for Your Song, Equestria is bred on the amazingly successful Fastnet Rock x Galileo cross and is the second winner from Celestial Babe, a half-sister by Galileo to Group winners Just Dancing and Tahni Girl and daughter of Group I winner Ballroom Babe.

The Fastnet Rock x Galileo nick has produced 65% winners to runners with 14 stakes-winners, five of them Group I winners.

Your Song has had a fast start to the season already posting five winners since August 1.

The Group I winning son of Fastnet Rock is fully booked this spring at Widden Stud at a fee of $22,000.
