10 for Rubick, 16 for Better Than Ready

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday April 24
Exciting young Coolmore sire Rubick added a tenth first crop winner to his tally with an impressive debut victory at Ipswich on Wednesday for talented colt Ruuca.

Ruuca as a yearlingTrained by Toby Edmonds, Ruuca showed good ability in a recent trial win and went out a short priced favourite for the 1200 metre juvenile maiden.

He made light of the heavy conditions to win easily by two lengths, running quicker time than the fillies division won by Better Than Ready filly Wishfilly, who scored a head win over Rubick filly Ruella, narrowly denying Rubic a race to race two year-old double.

A $150,000 Magic Millions purchase for his trainer from the Segenhoe Stud draft, Ruuca runs for a big syndicate that includes Aquis Farm.

Ruuca is the second winner from well bred Redoute's Choice mare Mining Tycoon, a half-sister to dual Group I winner Bentley Biscuit from the Christmas Tree branch of the Denise's Joy family that has also produced Group I winner and champion sire Thorn Park.

Ruuca has some interesting line breeding as his sire Rubick is from Sliding Cube, who is a three-quarter sister to his dam sire Redoute's Choice giving Ruuca a 3 x 3 double cross of blue hen Shantha's Choice and 4 x 3 double cross of Danehill.

Rubick moves to 10 winners following the success of Ruuca, while Better Than Ready moves to 16 winners.

Both stallions have been given significant fee increases for 2019, Rubick will stand at Coolmore at a fee of $38,500(up from $17,600) , while Better Than Ready will stand at Lyndhurst Stud at a fee of $33,000 (up from $9,900).
