Newgate Sires Double

Exciting young Newgate sires Wandjina and Deep Field provided the quinella in the $27,000 Star Kingdom Handicap for juvenile colts at Muswellbrook on Easter Monday and then the next winner with Deep Field filly Just Field winning the $27,000 Miss Finland Handicap for juvenile fillies in spectacular style.

Wandjina is the sire of Bengalla BayLocally trained by Pat Farrell, Wandjina colt Bengalla Bay broke through with a tenacious long head win over Deep Field colt King's Champ with nearly four lengths back to the third horse in the 1000 metre dash which was run in a brisk 56.70 seconds.

Raced by Darrell Standen, Bengalla Bay was bred by SF Bloodstock and raised at Newgate. He is the fifth winner from five to race from Group II winner Kosi Bay, who died earlier this year.

Bengalla Bay is the fifth first crop winner for Wandjina, who has four in Australia and one in New Zealand.

Deep Field made amends in the next race siring the Peter and Paul Snowden trained filly Just Field to score a dominant three length debut win in 56.61 seconds, so running slightly quicker time than the colts.

Just Field, the most expensive filly from Deep Field's first cropA $650,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Cressfield draft for China Horse Club / Alan Bell Racing, Just Field was the most expensive filly from the first crop of Deep Field. She is a half-sister to stakes-winner Granny Red Shoes from stakes-winning Show a Heart mare Shoboard.

Just Field is the tenth winner for Deep Field, whose tally includes the Group winning colts Cosmic Force and Dig Deep.
