Tara Madgwick - Monday April 22

Locally trained by Pat Farrell, Wandjina colt Bengalla Bay broke through with a tenacious long head win over Deep Field colt King's Champ with nearly four lengths back to the third horse in the 1000 metre dash which was run in a brisk 56.70 seconds.

Raced by Darrell Standen, Bengalla Bay was bred by SF Bloodstock and raised at Newgate. He is the fifth winner from five to race from Group II winner Kosi Bay, who died earlier this year.

Bengalla Bay is the fifth first crop winner for Wandjina, who has four in Australia and one in New Zealand.

Deep Field made amends in the next race siring the Peter and Paul Snowden trained filly Just Field to score a dominant three length debut win in 56.61 seconds, so running slightly quicker time than the colts.
