I Am Invincible Equals Record

Tara Madgwick - Sunday April 14
I Am Invincible put himself into rarefied company on Saturday when siring his 26th stakes-winner of the season, a number that puts him on an equal footing with champion sires Danehill and Snitzel, who hold the record for number of Australian stakes-winners in a season at 26.

Miss Leonidas - image Grant CourtneyThe horse that did it for him was lightly raced mare Miss Leonidas, who nailed her first Black Type win with a hard fought front running win in the Listed MRC Bel Esprit Stakes over 1100 metres at Caulfield.

The Shaun Dwyer trained mare has a great record with four wins and three placings from 11 starts and prizemoney topping $257,000.

Dwyer revealed the mare has had a few problems during her career, but he felt she had more to offer.

"With that black type, her foals could be worth half a million, but we'll aim her at a Group 2 in the spring and see where that takes us," he said.

"If she doesn't find her form then she's got a good future as a mum."

Not offered at auction, Miss Leonidas is the best of seven winners from Happy Play, a half-sister by Barathea (IRE) to Group I winner Newport.

Miss Leonidas is the 45th stakes-winner for I Am Invincible, who is enjoying his best ever season on the track and covered 223 mares last spring at a fee of $192,500.

Below is the leading sires by stakes-winners list for sires with six or more stakes-winners.
