It's a Family Affair for Mockery and She So High at Flemington

Mark Smith - Saturday March 2

It was a real family affair at Flemington on Saturday with the two-year Mockery opening her account in the Listed Festival of Racing 1000 Stakes (1000m) before her dam's half-sister chipped in with the Listed ATA/Bob Hoysted Hcp winner She's So High.

The John McArdle-trained Mockery led them up in Saturday's Listed Festival of Racing 1000 Stakes (1000m) down the straight and despite looking beaten half a dozen times, fought on to credit her sire Verrazano (USA) with his first Australian winner and stakes-winner.

Mockery finished unplaced in the Listed Inglis Debutant Stakes at Caulfield when making her career debut on October 13 last year. She was off the scene for four months before finishing second over 1000 metres at Moonee Valley on February 15.

Described by winning rider Linda Meech as a 'little madam', Mockery has tested her trainer John McArdle.

"She does have a bit of streak in her that's about a mile and a half wide and she's not that big," McArdle said.

"She is still not doing things right, but she's tough.

"Scott Williamson bred her and put a lot of his mates in and she's a stakes-winner now so he's got himself a broodmare

"The first time we galloped her we thought she was very quick but I just wondering if she was a greyhound and needed no more than 600 metres but she runs a 1000m at has got the job done now ".

Mockery is the first foal of the Lonhro mare Madoni who finished closer to last than first in her 5-start career but she boasts an interesting pedigree with the Eight Carat family featuring on both top and bottom halves.

Madoni is a half-sister to High Achiever (Exceed And Excel) the dam of the Mick Price-trained She's So High (I Am Invincible) who added the Listed ATA/Bob Hoysted to her previous win in the Group III Proud Miss Stakes.

With Damien Oliver in the saddle, She's So High defeated Thermal Current (Exceed And Excel) by a length, with another three-quarters of a length back to I Am Someone (Onemorenomore) in third.

"She was never going to be a summer mare and she will be off to Sydney now," Price said.

"She might be a nice horse to run in The Galaxy over 1100 metres if we kept her fresh.

"She's not a Group One mare at the moment, so you are always trying to improve them.

"If I can keep her fresh I think it would a beautiful race for her if the track is chopping out a bit for her."

The Galaxy is at Rosehill in three weeks and Oliver also believes the four-year-old could make her presence felt should she head that way.

"I wouldn't put that beyond her, for sure," he said.

"It was a comfortable win today. She has come back well and it was a nice race for her."

A $120,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Amarina Farm draft for Blueblood Thoroughbreds, She's So High was bred by Kambula Stud and was originally sold by them at the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale for $65,000.

The daughter of I Am Invincible is a half-sister to Group III placed Bangs and is the second winner for Exceed and Excel mare High Achiever, who like Madoni is a daughter of the Spectrum mare Cash For Comment who is a half-sister to the $3.4 million broodmare Listed Here, the dam of Shooting To Win and Deep Field.

Madoni has a yearling colt by Fighting Sun that was knocked down to Steve Morley Bloodstock/Robert Heathcote for $55,000 from the Musk Creek draft at the Magic Millions.

Tragically, the daughter of Lonhro died shortly after producing a Fighting Sun filly last spring.

Sadly, High Achiever suffered a similar fate, dying a fortnight after foaling a Stratum Star filly, which was her first foal in four years.
