Group Double for Dundeel

Tara Madgwick - Saturday February 23
Arrowfield Stud's Dundeel has been riding the crest of a winning wave which continued into Saturday with a six length two year-old stakes-winner in New Zealand in Yourdeel and an impressive performance from promising three year-old colt Global Exchange to win the Group II MRC Autumn Classic at Caulfield.

Rated a Breednet 'One to Watch' when winning at Pakenham back in August, the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace trained Global Exchange looked good when resuming from a summer spell to win at Werribee and went right on with the job in this tougher assignment.

Stepping out to 1800 metres for the first time, he settled back in the field for Ben Melham and hit the line hard to win going away by two and a quarter lengths in a dominant display.

Global Exchange - images Grant Courtney"He was always travelling well and was really strong through the line, so he has great staying potential," said Melham.

"I'd imagine he'd be headed on a Derby path."

A $130,000 NZB Premier Sale purchase from the Little Avondale Stud draft for Ciaron Maher Bloodstock, Global Exchange runs for a partnership including China Horse Club in whose colours he runs, as well as Su-Ann Khaw, Musk Creek Farm and partners.

With three wins from five starts, Global Exchange has already won over $150,000 and the best is still to come.

"We always thought he was a Derby type, but he was not quite mature in the spring, said Ciaron Maher.

"He was a bit wayward last start when winning so we put blinkers on him and they've just helped him relax and stay calm.

"He has a bright future looking towards the Sydney Autumn and we'll look at the Rosehill Guineas for him as a start."

Bred by China Horse Club, Global Exchange is the first foal and first winner for Incredulous, a half-sister by Keep the Faith to Group II winner Faith Hill, the dam of stakes-winner Black Minx, in turn the dam of stakes-winner So Si Bon.

DundeelIncredulous was bought for $260,000 from the 2015 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale by China Horse Club when carrying Global Exchange and was then re-sold at the 2017 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale where she was bought by Aquis Sha Tin Synd/Blue Sky B'stock (FBAA) for $200,000.

Incredulous produced a filly for Aquis by Press Statement that was sold at the Magic Millions Yearling Sale by Aquis in January for $340,000 to Spicer Thoroughbreds, so can certainly produce a good type.

Sadly for Aquis, she lost a colt foal by More Than Ready (USA) last year and was covered very late by Divine Prophet after missing to Invader.

Yourdeel and Global Exchange are the sixth and seventh stakes-winners for Arrowfield young gun Dundeel, who covered 147 mares last spring at a fee of $27,500.
