One to Watch – Sale

Tara Madgwick - Sunday December 23
Australia’s leading second crop sire Zoustar is currently settling into his new surrounds at Tweenhills Stud in the UK in preparation for his first book of Northern Hemisphere mares and delivered his 30th winner of the season at Sale on Sunday with a debut victory for a promising filly.

Zoustar has arrived safely at Tweenhills in time for Christmas!Bred and retained to race by leading Victorian farm Woodside Park after passing in as a yearling, the Darren Weir trained Jazz Star settled fourth in the field of six and surged to the line to win the 1000 metre maiden by a length.

Jazz Star is the first winner for imported stakes-winner Charleston Lady (GB), a half-sister by Hurricane Run to Japanese Group III winner Live Concert.

Her success provided a great pedigree update for her yearling half-sister by Written Tycoon that will be offered by Woodside Park Stud at the 2019 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale as Lot 106.

Charleston Lady was bought by Belmont Bloodstock for Woodside Park in 2014 at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale for $150,000 and the mare produced her first colt this spring to the farm’s young shuttle sire Cable Bay (IRE).

Jazz Star is the 30th Australian winner since August 1 for Zoustar (pictured courtesy Tweenhills Twitter) , who has had an amazing year in 2018 which started with Sunlight winning the $2million Magic Millions 2YO Classic and has finished with her winning the Group I ATC Coolmore Stud Stakes to be acclaimed as the best three year-old sprinter in the country.

Five stakes-winners in total this season with progeny earnings in excess of $3million has put Widden Stud’s Zoustar in a class of his own in terms of young sire talent leading into the 2019 sales.
