Perth Cup on the Cards for High Chaparral's Mississippi Delta

Mark Smith - Sunday November 25

Lightly raced five-year-old mare Mississippi Delta (High Chaparral) kept the ball rolling for the Peters, Pike and Williams triumvirate in Saturday's Listed Magic Millions Tattersall's Cup (2100m) at Ascot.

A half-sister to the 2014 Group 1 Railway Stakes heroine Elite Belle, Mississippi Delta came from midfield to defeat Blue Tracer by two lengths for a maiden stakes success and advance her record to 7 wins and 2 seconds from 12 starts with earnings of $264,065.

"It's a bit sentimental when you consider Elite Belle was here on this day a couple of years ago winning the Railway, and this is her half-sister," owner Bob Peters told The West Australian.

"Her sprint at the end of a 2100 metre race – it's nice to see them come home like that."

Elite Belle had won 10 of her 25 starts and accrued more than $1.4 million in prizemoney when she suffered a heart attack on a plane travelling to Sydney.

The daughter of Canny Lad had notched wins at the 2014 Perth summer carnival in the Group III Prince Of Wales Stakes (1200m), Group I Railway Stakes (1600m) and Group II Cox Stakes (2100m).

Also, a half-sister to the dual Listed winner Battle Emblem (Second Empire), Mississippi Delta becomes the third stakes-winner for the Marooned mare Mississippi Belle who was purchased by Belmont Bloodstock Agency for $72,000 at the 2015 Inglis Australian Easter Broodmare Sale.

She has a yearling colt by Safeguard and a colt foal by WA Guineas winner Rommel (Commands).

Mississippi Delta becomes the 124th stakes winner for High Chaparral (IRE) who died in 2014.
