Eagle Way Breaks Sha Tin Track Record

Tara Madgwick - Monday November 19
Bred and sold by Segenhoe Stud, Eagle Way shot to prominence for the upcoming Hong Kong international meeting with a record breaking win on Sunday in the HK$4,25 million G2 BOCHK Jockey Club Cup (2000m).

Eagle Way - image Grant CourtneyWinner of the Group I Queensland Derby in Australia, the John Moore trained six year-old was being prepared for the HK$20 million G1 LONGINES Hong Kong Vase (2400m), but that plan could be scrapped in favour of a 2000m back-up in the biggest race in town, the HK$28 million G1 LONGINES Hong Kong Cup, a race for which he does not yet hold an entry.

"We haven't decided whether we run in the Vase over 2400 (metres) or the Cup over 2000 (metres)," Moore revealed after the son of More Than Ready (USA) scored a stylish length victory.

"We'll put in a supplementary entry for the Cup before deadline tomorrow and I'll talk it over with the owner, Mr. Siu, whether we run. I'm hearing that the Cup might be an option worth considering."

Following his stable star Beauty Generation's incredible track record success in the G2 Jockey Club Mile one race prior, Moore was bubbling upon learning that Eagle Way had clocked the fastest 2000m in Sha Tin's history.

"This is the track record, too," he called to his wife, Fifi. "We hold two of them – excellent. I feel like Lewis Hamilton today!

"The way they went early, it set it up for closers and that fell right into the hands of Exultant and Eagle Way," he added.

Eagle Way as a yearlingEagle Way's time of 1m 59.30s shaved 0.23s off Glorious Forever's previous record mark.

Bred by Segenhoe Stud, Eagle Way was a $200,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Segenhoe draft for George Moore Bloodstock and has eight seven of 34 starts.

He is a half-brother to stakes-winners Assertive Eagle, Impressive Eagle and Soaressa, the dam of Group III winning sprinter Thermal Current.

20 year-old Wedgetail Eagle has a two year-old colt by Choisir that made $130,000 at the 2018 Magic Millions when bought by Robert Price and her current yearling is a full sister to Eagle Way. She has no foal this year after missing last spring to More Than Ready.
