Godolphin Bred Wins Top Jumping Prize

Tara Madgwick - Thursday November 15
Last week Sheikh Mohammed and his Godolphin team were celebrating the joy of having bred and owned their first Melbourne Cup winner in Cross Counter, but he wasn't the only Darley home bred doing amazing things.

Falklands and Victoria Hoy - courtesy Horse Deals GalleryAt the 2018 Australian National Showjumping Championships at Boneo Park in Victoria last week, Victoria Hoy had a great show competing on her 10 year-old Viscount gelding Falklands.

Contesting the highly competitive junior riders division, Victoria and Falklands finished tenth overall in the championship class of that event which was enough to give them overall honours as most successful off the track thoroughbred at the show.

A talented racehorse, Falklands won six of 40 starts and placed a further 13 times earning over $200,000 in prizemoney, but was not raced by Godolphin as he was sold by Darley as a weanling for $4,500.

His trainer Marc Quinn bought him for $9,000 at the Inglis Scone Yearling Sale and what a good purchase he turned out to be!

Falklands had his last race in November 2014 and is one of those genuinely useful thoroughbreds that can turn his hand to anything.
