The exploits of star Tasmanian filly Mystic Journey during the Victorian Spring Racing Carnival certainly lifted the profile of her sire Needs Further, and last night his progeny lit up the Launceston racecourse.

Needs Further

Fiveandfurther (4m Needs Further x Squeel) was first up for new trainer Stephen Lockhart and the mare was very impressive after being severely checked at the 300m to storm over the top to break her maiden. Fiveandfurther was a graduate of the Tasmanian Magic Millions sale in 2016 for $15,000.

Appraise (3g Needs Further x Phyl's Choice) finally delivered on the huge wraps that have been on him with a super impressive win in the 3YO Maiden over 1100m. The gelding is the highest priced Needs Further colt purchased at the sales when he was knocked down to trainer John Blacker for $90,000 at the 2017 Tasmanian Magic Millions sale.

It was a Needs Further quinella with A Tad More (3f Needs Further x Al Ward) again running impressively for young trainer Chester Roach and a win is not far away for this filly.

Voices (4f Needs Further x Come On Rory) was given a beautiful ride by Craig Newitt to make it win number two in the Maiden/ Class 1 handicap over 1620m for trainer Adam Trinder. The mare was purchased at the 2016 Tasmanian Magic Millions Sale by Belmont Bloodstock for $10,000.

In what could have been an even better night for Needs Further, Nova Vista - (4m Needs Further x Novasaurus) just missed making it back to back wins when running second in the Class 1 Hcp (1420 Metres) and Triple Strip ran a creditable 3rd giving her older rivals weight in the BM64 over 1620m.

Today Needs Furthers has his first Group 1 runner with Exclusively Ours (3f Needs Further x Nonsensical) lining up in the Kennedy Oaks for young Cranbourne trainer Matthew Brown and Our Long Sali (3f Needs Further x Tycoon) Sali runs in the Group 3 World Horse Racing Roses Stakes (1100m) for trainer Patrick Payne and Prime Thoroughbreds.

And in other news Adam Trinder has announced that star Tassie filly Mystic Journey (3f Needs Further x White Gold will have another run in Melbourne in the Group 2 Sandown Guineas on Saturday November 17.

Needs Further is a Group winning son of the champion Encosta De Lago and a half-brother to dual Group 1 winner Hallowed Crown and stands at outstanding value of $5,500,
