Bluebloods Fight Out Maiden

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday October 31
A pair of blue-bloods fought out the finish of the 1400 metre maiden at Bendigo on Wednesday with an $800,000 Snitzel colt getting the better of the half-brother to Cox Plate winner and champion sire Savabeel.

Jawwaal as a yearlingThe Hayes / Dabernig trained Jawwaal was sent out favourite and made the pace from an inside draw before powering clear to win by two and three-quarters of a length over All Too Hard colt Scipio, who will no doubt find a race to win sooner rather than later.

Jawwaal was overdue for the win after finishing second at his first three runs back from a spell.

An $800,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Shadwell from the Milburn Creek draft, Jawwaal was bred by Makybe and is a half-brother to Group I winner Amicus from good producer Gold Chant, a stakes-placed half-sister to champion sprinter and Group I sire Starspangledbanner.

The Danny O'Brien trained Scipio was born when his New Zealand Oaks winning dam Savannah Success was 20, her best foal Savabeel born back in 2001. She's still going strong for Baramul Stud and has a two year-old filly by Snitzel and has foaled this spring producing a filly by Golden Slipper winner Vancouver.
