Kauri Cove the first winner for new training partnership

Media Release - Thursday October 25

gavelhouse graduate Kauri Cove  provided a special milestone win for Kelvin and Aimee Tyler's newly minted father/daughter training partnership at Winton last week.

Kauri Cove and connectionsJust a week into their training partnership and with nine runners to their credit, Kauri Cove lined up a little favoured $26.50 quote. Terry Moseley settled the son of Roc de Cambes towards the rear of the field and brought him wide in the straight where he let down strongly to put almost a length on his nearest rival.

Training out of Riverton, the duo currently have 30 horses in work with Terry Lines purchasing Kauri Cove from The Oaks Stud, via gavelhouse.com in June for $1,300 to add to the team.

While in his first two starts for his new connections Kauri Cove only managed to beat one home on each occasion, Tyler senior was not surprised by the win commenting "He's a big, rangy type of horse and just needed more ground so the mile suited him a lot better than the shorter distances he'd run over in his first two starts with us."

"He's a handy wee horse in the making and has pulled up well so will go to Gore next week."

"Once he gets up over 2,000m he will be even more at home."

Sold having had five starts for a placing on debut over 1400m Kauri Cove was well described in his listing online as a 'big, strong staying gelding' and he follows the trend set by fellow gavelhouse.com graduate in $700 buy Boyslightup who gave newcomer trainer Ashley Frye her first winner at Gore earlier in October.

The latest gavelhouse.com New Zealand auction is online now and features youngstock, racehorses and empty and in-foal broodmares. Bidding is set to close from 7pm on Monday 29 October. Contact the team on info@gavelhouse.com or call 092964439 for enquiries.

Entries for the next gavelhouse.com Australia auction close at 7pm AEDT Monday 29 October.
