Pierro Stayer Wins Cranbourne Cup

Leading young sire Pierro capped a very successful weekend with a third stakes-winner on Sunday after Octabello took out the $350,000 Listed Cranbourne Cup.

The Mick Price trained four year-old has been racing consistently this preparation after being gelded and finished with a well timed run for Noel Callow to snatch a short neck win in the 2025 metre contest.

Octabello as a yearlingIt was the fourth win from 13 starts for Octabello, who has earned over $300,000 in prizemoney.

"He was desperately unlucky the other day at Caulfield (third in the Inglis Cup), but today he had a beautiful run behind the favourite and got the chocolates," said Noel Callow.

A $190,000 Inglis Premier purchase from the Cornerstone Stud draft for his trainer, Octabello is the third winner for Charlotte de Belle, a full sister to dual Group I winner and $1.9 million earner Dash for Cash.

Octabello is the 11th stakes-winner for Pierro, who also had a stakes double at Randwick on Satruday with Pierata and I Like It Easy.

The champion son of Lonhro stands at Coolmore this spring at a fee of $88,000.
