Back To Back Stakes Wins for Segenhoe's Winter Bride

Mark Smith - Saturday October 13

Last winner of the Group III How Now Stakes, Segenhoe Stud's Winter Bride returned to the same track and distance to take her winning sequence to four in Saturday's Group III MRC Cape Grim Beef Steaks Stakes (1200m) (Northwood Plume Stakes) at Caulfield.

Given the run of the race by Ryan Maloney, the Toby Edmonds-trained mare came under severe pressure by Booker in the last 100 metres but she fought her off to record a short-head win with Our Crown Mistress one and a quarter length back in third. (photo Grant Courtney)

The 4yo daughter of Not A Single Doubt advances her record to 8 wins, 4 seconds and 1 third from 16 starts with earnings of $411,050.

"She's a credit to herself, she has improved so much," Edmonds said

"She had a record at home of being ordinary and weak when she was young, but she has matured so much and is so strong.

"We will take one race at a time and see where we get to with her. I will talk to Bill (Mitchell) and the boys at Segenhoe, but they will be very happy."

A homebred for Segenhoe Thoroughbreds, Winter Bride is one of three winners from as many to race out of the Group II AJC Emancipation Stakes winner Amberino (Perugino).

Segenhoe sold Amberino at the 2016 Inglis Easter Broodmare Sale for $150,000 to Vinery Stud when she was in foal to Hinchinbrook. That foal unfortunately died but Amberino had a filly by Press Statement last spring before being bred back to Star Turn.
