Last Foal of Gun Mare Wins on Debut

Breednet - Wednesday October 10
He's the last foal of a prominent member of one of the best families in the studbook and he made a winning debut at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

Lonhro - had a very good day on Wednesday.Roheryn is by Lonhro out of Mannington, a dual juvenile stakes winner and placegetter in the Gr.1 Blue Diamond Stakes and Newmarket Handicap.

Mannington subsequently hit paydirt very quickly at stud, with her first foal by More Than Ready making $525,000 as a yearling in 2004 and, racing as Benicio, went on to win the Victoria Derby.

She is by Danehill out of Golden Slipper winner and Champion 2YO Bint Marscay who went on to leave Gr.1 Coolmore Classic winner Bollinger at stud.

Bint Marscay is in turn one of an illustrious band of siblings from the blue hen mare Eau D'Etoile, a stakes winner in her own right and placed in the NZ Oaks and Australian Oaks, but at stud left eight foals, seven raced, all winners including, as well as Bint Marscay, the dual Group One winner and Cox Plate placegetter Filante, Gr.1 Australian Guineas winner Kenny's Best Pal along with the stakes winner Eau D'Scay and stakes placed Temple Fire (dam of Gr.1 Australia Stakes winner Stella Cadente).

Roheryn is the 11th foal and seventh winner for Mannington, who has also left the Group 2 winner Romneya and spent the years from 2005 to 2014 in the USA.

She was covered by Lonhro in her first season back in Australia, producing Roheryn, before missing to Medaglia D'Oro and sadly passed away in May this year.

The win was a strong performance from Roheryn, who had barrier trialled impressively and was heavily backed into an odds-on favourite before ploughing through the Heavy 10 conditions too strongly.

It was the start of a strong day for the evergreen Lonhro who had four runners for three new winners, the other two being Colombina (ex Mascareri) also at Warwick Farm and Rock Harbour (ex Isle Royale) at Strathalbyn.
