Juvenile Trial Watch – Rosehill

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday October 2
Two barrier trials for two year-olds at Rosehill on Tuesday morning included a stylish winner for Newgate Farm’s exciting young sire Dissident, the Australian Horse of the Year in 2015.

Disruptor as a yearlingTrained by Gary Portelli, Disruptor was lining up for his second trial having chased home last Saturday’s Group III ATC Breeders Plate winner Dubious when second to him at the official two year-old trials last month.

Partnered by James McDonald, Disruptor jumped better this time around in his 900 metre heat and travelled up on the pace, but was very green when wobbling wide on the home turn before accelerating hard to the line to win by a length in 54.35 seconds.

A $150,000 Inglis Classic purchase for Darby Racing/ De Burgh Equine from the Segenhoe Stud draft, Disruptor is from Group III placed Snitzel mare Sweetener, a three-quarter sister to Group I winning sprinter Secret Agenda.

A champion son of Golden Slipper winner Sebring, Dissident was a Group I winner at three and four, but was a stakes-winning two year-old winning the Listed MRC Blue Diamond Preview on debut, so there is no reason to think he won’t have some smart early runners this season.

Still Single as a yearlingThe next trial was won by the Chris Waller trained More Than Ready (USA) filly Still Single, who scored a dominant length and a half win over Everest contender Graff’s little sister Steel Diamond.

She jumped fast and took up the lead, dictating terms and coasting home for Hugh Bowman to win in 54.52 seconds.

Still Single was a $500,000 Magic Millions purchase for Cambridge Stud’s Brendan and Jo Lindsay from the Vinery Stud draft and is from stakes-winning Not a Single Doubt mare Single Style.
