God of Thunder Finally Salutes

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday September 26
Talented, but at times wayward, well bred More than Ready (USA) colt God of Thunder finally joined all the dots to post his first win at Rosehill on Wednesday.

God of Thunder as a yearlingPrepared by Team Hawkes, God of Thunder has shown real brilliance at the trials, but in three previous race day starts had done plenty wrong with a lone third placing his best effort.

In a small field of four, God of Thunder was able to get his head together and hit the line hard for Brenton Avdulla to win the 1100 metre maiden by nearly two lengths.

A $310,000 Magic Millions purchase for Darby Racing/ De Burgh Equine from the Segenhoe draft, God of Thunder is the first foal of brilliant Group II winner Jolie Bay, who was also second in the Group I VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes, a race won by her full brother Merchant Navy.

Segenhoe sold a Deep Field yearling colt from Jolie Bay at Inglis Easter this year for $530,000 and she has a yearling full brother to God of Thunder for the sales next year.

Given his ability and first class pedigree, connections will be hoping it's onwards and upwards for God of Thunder.
