Redzel Poised to Break Record

Media Release - Wednesday September 26
REDZEL has drawn Barrier 1 after the eight nominations for the Premiere Stakes all held their ground at the acceptance stage, paving the way for an epic showdown between six of The Everest runners at Royal Randwick on Saturday.

RedzelThe reigning Everest Champion Redzel will have In Her Time and Trapeze Artist jump immediately outside him in gates two and three, while Invincible Star will have to contend with the widest barrier in eight. The Anthony Freedman-trained Everest-bound pair of Santa Ana Lane and Shoals will jump from gates four and seven respectively, with Music Magnate and Invincible Gem the other two set to line up for the Group 2 event over 1200m.

Victory in the $500,000 Premiere Stakes will see Redzel become the highest earning sprinter in Australian Racing history, surpassing the $8,821,935 earned by Chautauqua and propelling the leading son of Snitzel up to fifth on the all time list of top earners.

Trainer Peter Snowden is happy with Redzel's progress heading into his final lead up run before The Everest on October 13.

"Redzel worked strongly again on Tuesday morning," said co-trainer Peter Snowden. "He worked well on Thursday and again yesterday, so he's in great order now.

"He's there to run well in what's a very, very good race on Saturday but we know we've got a very good horse.

"This run will bring him right on and get him up to where we want him for The Everest in two weeks, but he's there to run well on Saturday."
