Prepared by Darren Weir, Extra Brut showed good ability when finishing second
at Geelong on August 6, despite doing plenty wrong on that occasion. This time around he was more tractable with John Allen in the saddle and found the line strongly to hold off the much hyped Prince of Caviar and win the 1300 metre contest by a neck.
"He has good ability. He ran very well at his first start and took a lot of improvement out of that," said Darren Weir.
"We think ours is a nice horse, so I'm tipping this will be a strong form race.
"We're looking forward to getting him out to a trip and who knows how far he might go this spring."
The runner-up Prince of Caviar hit the line well and the son of Sebring will undoubtedly be better for the run.
Extra Brut was a $100,000 Inglis Classic purchase for Spicer Thoroughbreds from
the Grange Thoroughbreds draft and was a successful pinhook for Gary Mudgway, having
been bought first as a weanling at the Inglis Great Southern Sale from the

His breeder will be hoping for further success from Extra Brut this spring as Dom Perion is due to foal again to his sire Domesday.
