One to Watch – Pakenham

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday August 28
This short priced favourite at Pakenham on Tuesday gave Arrowfield Stud’s promising young sire Dundeel another smart winner with staying potential.

Global Exchange as a yearlingTrained by Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, Global Exchange was a good third on debut at Sandown on August 15 behind the Darren Weir trained Approach Discreet, who bolted in by eight and a half lengths on Saturday at Morphettville.

Approach Discreet is being talked of as a leading Victoria Derby contender following that explosive win, so it was no surprise punters were all over him today and he duly delivered.

Global Exchange travelled smoothly for Ben Melham in fourth position and forged clear down the running to win the 1400 metre maiden by the best part of a length.

"He’s a big raw horse and has always struck me as a likely Derby horse, although spring might be a bit quick for him, but we’ll see,” said Ciaron Maher.

"He runs in Su-Ann Khaw’s colours and China Horse Club are in the ownership as well, so they are a great group of owners and I think they will have a lot of fun going forward.”

Global Exchange is not the only Dundeel trained by Maher.

Dundeel"We’ve also got smart filly The Closer, who won on debut,” Maher said.

"We’ve only got a handful of them, but they are very nice horses.”

A $130,000 NZB Premier Sale purchase from the Little Avondale Stud draft for Ciaron Maher Bloodstock, Global Exchange is the first winner for Incredulous, a half-sister by Keep the Faith to Group II winner Faith Hill, the dam of stakes-winner Black Minx.

Global Exchange is the eighth first crop winner for High Chaparral’s champion son Dundeel, who stands at Arrowfield Stud at a fee of $27,500 this spring.
