Welcome Win for Ingham Homebred

Breednet - Wednesday August 22
This Ingham homebred filly from a family made famous by Gooree Stud was no doubt a welcome winner at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

Northern Meteor - his family provided a new winner in Sure Knee

Northern Meteor - his family provided a new winner in Sure Knee

Sure Knee was having her second start after turning in a nice effort on debut three weeks prior and appreciated the rise to 1300m to score an impressively tough win after James McDonald sent her to the front only to be headed in the straight but rallied to win narrowly.

The three-year-old filly is by Snitzel out of Shawnee Girl, a million dollar yearling from a family very closely associated with Gooree Stud.

Shawnee Girl's second dam is Explosive, the dam of three stakes winners including Group One winner and champion sire Northern Meteor, Queen Of The Hill and Rabbuka.

She is also the dam of the unraced Comical Smile, who left stakeswinners Smart Missile, Surge Ahead and Kiss From A Rose.

Ingham Bloodstock purchased Shawnee Girl as a yearling for a $1 million from the Widden Stud draft in 2008 and she subsequently won four races and finished third in the Gr2 Magic Night Stakes as a two year-old.

Sure Knee is her third foal and second winner, with her first foal, Oklahoma Girl winning three times and finishing second in the Gr1 Queensland Oaks and Gr2 BRC The Roses.

Shawnee Girl hasn't had much luck since though, her 2016 Exceed And Excel foal died and she missed the following year.

She was served last season by Fastnet Rock.
