Tough-As-Teak Sir Dancealot a Wonderful Advertisement for Sir Prancealot

Mark Smith - Sunday August 19

Cornerstone Stud's Sir Prancealot (IRE) has a wonderful standard-bearer in Europe this season with the David Elsworth-trained Sir Dancealot who proved much the best in Saturday's Group II Hungerford Stakes at Newbury.

Seventh behind Merchant Navy in the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Ascot on June 23, Sir Dancealot captured the Group III Criterion Stakes at Newmarket seven days later. Given a fortnight off he stepped back up to Group 1 company when an honourable fourth behind The Everest bound US Navy Flag in the Darley July Cup at Newmarket.

The Coolmore connection were favoured to take Saturday's Group II Hungerford Stakes with Gustav Klimt but the son of Galileo failed to fire as Gerald Mosse drove Sir Dancealot to a one and a quarter length win over the frontrunner Dream Of Dreams (Dream Ahead) with Breton Rock (Bahamian Bounty) a further half-length back in third. "He did exactly what I expected him to," Mosse told The Racing Post.

"Last time [in Goodwood's Lennox Stakes] he was a bit stuck in but still made it because he has the engine.

"Today I didn't want to take any risks. I know he is a really good horse and I didn't want any interference, so I gave him a chance and switched him off. I didn't want to go that early, but it came nice and easy."

Newbury has proven to be a happy hunting ground of late for the progeny of Sir Prancealot as his son Ginger Nuts proved too strong in the £250,000 Super Sprint for two-year-olds on July 18.

Sir Dancealot is out of the Danehill Dancer mare Majesty's Dancer who is a half-sister to the 11-time winner Dancal (Mujadil) a stakes-winner in South Africa, America and the United Arab Emirates.

The first Australian foals of the Group II Flying Childers Stakes Sir Prancealot (IRE) are hitting the ground this season.

The handsome son of Tamayuz stands the 2018 season at Cornerstone Stud at an advertised service fee of $14,300.
