Date Set for Tamworth's Favourite Daughter

Breednet - Thursday August 9

Spieth, the fastest son of the late Champion Sire Thorn Park is preparing to enter his first season at stud at Aquis Farm in the Hunter Valley. By all reports he has already received excellent support from Australian breeders, and one savvy breeder has elected to send his Stakes winning mare and her dam to the speed sire.

Errol Leicht and his wife have passion for racing and breedingErrol Leicht from Tamworth in NSW is sending his prized mare Time Release (Switch In Time) to Spieth.

Time Release is the dam of the Listed Denise's Joy Stakes winner In A Wink (Ready As), who will also visit Spieth this coming breeding season after retiring from racing in April.

In what appears to be a changing of the guard for Errol and his hobby broodmare band, Errol has indicated 2018 will be the final season Time Release is bred, opting to retire her from duties once she foals in 2019.

Whilst In A Wink is entering her first season at stud and assuming all goes well, the first foal out of the Stakes winning mare will be highly sought after in the market if Errol decides to offer the progeny for public sale.

Young stakes-winner In a Wink and her dam Time Release are booked to SpiethErrol admits he never intended to get into breeding, saying ''once it gets in your blood it is hard to get it out".

Years of racing his horses in country NSW has given Errol a lifetime of memories, from having the favourite for the 2016 Tamworth Cup, to chasing Voodoo Lad around the Country meetings attempting to make the Country Championships field at Randwick, to In A Wink winning at her first-ever attempt in town at Warwick Farm.

Although the racetrack has brought plenty of memories for Errol, he admits breeding might just bring him more joy, "I don't know what Gwen and I would be doing if we didn't have the horses"

A pedigree man himself he states that sending Time Release and her daughter In A Wink to Spieth is no fluke, ''Time Release is linebred to the influential matriarch Relance, and so too is Group Three winner Candelara, among others. Whilst Spieth carries six strains of the great Natalma in his first seven generations. On top of this In A Wink descends from the same female family as Thorn Park's Group One winner Ocean Park so it really is a great match on paper and on type as Spieth is a stunning sort, built in the mould of Thorn Park."
