UK Winner for French Bid

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday August 7
Winner of the Group II SAJC Swettenham Stud Stakes in 2004 before it was upgraded to Group I status, high class Anabaa (USA) sprinting mare French Bid featured with a promising juvenile winner in the UK overnight in Evie Speed.

Dawn Approach is the sire of Evie SpeedOriginally sent to the Northern Hemisphere by Darley, French Bid was on-sold in 2015 at the Goffs November Breeding Stock Sale for 48,000 euros when in foal to Dawn Approach and the result of that mating is two yea-old filly Evie Speed.

Trained by Jedd O'Keeffe, Evie Speed jumped fast to take up the lead and raced clear to win the six furlong contest by more than three lengths as favourite at her third start.

"The idea was to get across to the rails as that is the place to be and we knew Evie Speed gets six well and she should stay 7f. We'll see how the handicapper treats her but I'd like to think we could get some black type with her one day," said her trainer.

A half-sister to stakes-placed Cavalaire Bay and Forum Magnum, Evie Speed is the fifth winner for French Bid, who is now 18.

French Bid won the last running of the Swettenham Stud Stakes before it was upgraded to Group I level and became the Robert Sangster Classic. The race has been won some by outstanding mares including Black Caviar, Alinghi, Response, Miracles of Life and Shoals.
