Debut Win for More Joyous Colt

Tara Madgwick - Monday August 6
The most interesting first starter anywhere in Australia today was three year old More Sundays, a royally bred colt by champion sire Fastnet Rock from John Singleton's much loved champion mare More Joyous.

Fastnet RockRetained to race by Singleton and sent to Lindsay Park to be trained by Ben and David Hayes and Tom Dabernig following an initial campaign with Bjorn Baker that resulted in one barrier trial win in December last year, More Sundays broke the ice with an impressive victory in the 1100 metre maiden at Geelong on Monday.

Sent forward from the gate by Jordan Childs to take up the lead, he proved a class above his rivals when surging clear to win by two and a quarter lengths.

Ben Hayes was on hand to watch the high profile colt who is destined for better things.

"It's a relief to see him do that," he said.

"You always have a big opinion of these sorts of horses and you want them to run well. He's always shown us good ability at home and now he's done it on race day.

More Joyous was the darling of Sydney racing from 2009 to 2012"You won't see him race in the country again. We think he's a sneaky Caulfield Guineas type horse. He's still green, but he was very strong through the line."

A big powerful bay, More Sundays is the second foal and second winner for $4.5 million earner More Joyous, who won 21 races, eight of them at Group I level.

Her first foal is the lightly raced Frankel mare Woman, who won her only start at Canterbury in September last year and has not raced since.

There are many great thoroughbred families in the world, but More Sundays is a colt whose pedigree sets him apart with his first four dams, More Joyous, Sunday Joy, Joie Denise and Denise's Joy all successful at the highest level. You would go a long way to find an unbroken female line of Group I success like that!

More Joyous has a yearling colt by Snitzel and was covered again by the reigning champion sire last spring.
