One to Watch – Geelong

Tara Madgwick - Friday August 3
A homebred for Fairway Thoroughbreds, this Exceed and Excel filly was a red hot favourite for the 1200 metre maiden at Geelong on Friday and won as her price suggested.

Exceed and ExcelThe Darren Weir trained Fiera Vista did plenty wrong and had little luck when unplaced on debut back in March, but the three year-old was much more professional this time around.

She jumped well and stalked the leader before forging clear to win by more than three lengths for Dean Yendall.

A striking chestnut with a prominent white blaze, she is a three-quarter sister to Group II winner Empress Rock and is the fourth winner from Empress Jade, a half-sister by Encosta de Lago to World Champion Sprinter Silent Witness and Group II winner Sister Madly.

Just turned 18, Darley’s champion sire Exceed and Excel is still going great guns and stands this spring at a fee of $82,500.
