Nine For Sizzling

Mark Smith - Sunday July 29

Newgate Farm's Sizzling continued his hot run at the back end of the season when the Robert Heathcote-trained Hot Sock gained the verdict, courtesy of the stewards, in Sunday's Maps Advertising Agency Hcp (1400m) at the Sunshine Coast.

Hot Sock had just one runner behind him in the straight with Michael Murphy desperately seeking some clean air. He thought he had it at the 250 metres before Michael Hellyer on the short-priced favourite Mywifesaidno came out under his neck stopping Hot Sock in his tracks.

He got going again to run Mywifesaidno to a neck before stewards promoted the 80/1 shot.

Hot Sock had not been a factor in three previous starts.

Purchased by First Light Racing / R Heathcote / Paul Willetts Bloodstock for $22,500 from the Yarraman Stud draft at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, Hot Sock (pictured as a yearling ) is the third winner from four to race out of the winning Catbird mare, Makemeasupermodel who is a half-sister to Group II MRC Schillaci Stakes winner Patpong.

A yearling colt out of Makemeasupermodel was purchased by Rod Northam Racing for $24,000 at this year's Inglis Classic.

Hot Sock is the ninth first crop winner and the third in a week for Sizzling with just Spirit Of Boom (18) and Zoustar (10) ahead of him for number of individual winners.
